The International Dance Day is a yearly event set up by UNESCO's International Dance Council since 1982. We were invited by the Library of Knesselare to give an overview of the various "traditional" dancing styles in Ireland through both demonstrations and workshops.
Here are already some videos. Explanations will follow later.

Please be patient when downloading the videos: they are large ! You better right-click and save them first on disk for better viewing. If during display they seem to stop abruptly (check the duration as indicated below), then the files have not been downloaded completely. Then try again.

Celtic Bompa and Sabine Pereboom dancing a treble jig

Easy treble jig. (26 MB!!! 3'03")

A few steps that we picked up from several teachers: Sean Kilkenny, Anne-Marie Cunningham, and Dubh Gall.

Celtic Bompa dancing sean nos

Sean nos reel (Connemara style). (17 Mb!!!, 1'57")

A few steps that I learned from Mick Mulkerrin's new DVD 'Buail Cois ar'. The steps shown (you can hear me shouting the names if you listen carefully) are: 'lead around', 'side step', 'heel and toe', 'stamp', 'highland', 'out and in', 'Joe Donovan's', and 'Paddy O'Brien's'. Be aware that this is just an humble attempt to perform the steps and in no way comparable to what Mick is capable of doing in a much more relaxed style.
The reels are Col Mc Bain and Roll out the Barrel masterfully played by Angelina Carberry & Martin Quinn.

Celtic Bompa dancing the 3 sea captains

Set dance: the three sea captains. (9 Mb 1'03")

I learned this set dance from Dubh Gall, who got it from Tony Nolan. The dance is difficult and I still need to practise a lot to get it right. Give me a few years...

Sint-Patrick's Day set dance. (6Mb 0'39")

The first traditional set dance that is taught to Irish dancers. Not too difficult as far as the steps are concerned, but bringing it with style, is not that easy. Find the 101 mistakes ...
