Set dancing class at Ulrich On this page, I report on the new sets covered at Ulrich's Tavern, Buffalo NY, as of April 22, 2006. Material that was introduced earlier, is covered elsewhere, unless there is something peculiar to mention.

Ulrich's Tavern is the oldest pub in Buffalo, in operation since 1868, and has an interesting history. (Picture by Karl R. Josker)

This was the first time that I went to this class. It wasn't a surprise though to meet dancers from the Innishfree Ceili group. It was great to be introduced at once to a new set: The Paris Set.

Here are some descriptions: The set is also described in Eileen O'Doherty's - Left Set Right Set.

Music for it is available on Matt Cunningham's Dance Music of Ireland, Vol 4, but much more enjoyable is Vol. 2 Music for Sets, The Temple House Ceili Band, Lunar Records LNCD 7024.

This time, we started of with The Caledonian and completed the Paris Set. Then I was introduced to the Ballyvourney Reel Set which, surprisingly, is danced to polkas. It is as nice as the Ballyvourney Jig Set, not difficult, but fast !

Here are some descriptions: Music for it is available on The Sets, Vol 3.
The set is displayed on The Magic of Irish Set Dancing Vol 1.
